HUCHUY QOSQO TREK TO MACHU PICCHU – 3D/2N EXPERIENCE

Huchuy Qosqo Trek to Machu Picchu – 3 Days / 2 Nights, a short and easy trek with breathtaking views, authentic Inca Trails, local culture, and the hidden gem of Huchuy Qosqo in the Sacred Valley. Escape the crowds and experience Peru off the beaten path before reaching the wonder of Machu Picchu.

3 DAYS HUCHUY QOSQO AND MACHU PICCHU TRIP DETAILS

DAY 1: CUSCO – PATABAMBA – HUCHUY QOSQO

Your Andean adventure begins at 6:00 am, when we pick you up from your hotel and drive in private transport to the charming village of Patabamba (3,800 m / 12,467 ft), just one hour from Cusco. After preparing our gear, we start a gentle uphill hike of about 3 hours toward the highest point of the trek at 4,200 m / 13,779 ft. From here, enjoy breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks and sweeping valleys that set the tone for this incredible journey.

We then descend to the village of Pucamarca, where we’ll spend time exploring little-known Inca ruins, before following an original stretch of the Inca Trail into the heart of the ancient city of Huchuy Qosqo. Once there, your guide will lead you through its impressive remains while sharing fascinating stories of its history and importance.

In the afternoon, we head to our homestay, where you’ll be welcomed by a warm local family. They will show you your room (with a proper toilet) and invite you to enjoy the stunning views overlooking both the valley and the Inca city itself. Later, savor afternoon tea followed by a hearty homemade dinner shared with your hosts—an authentic cultural experience.

As night falls, step outside to marvel at the brilliant star-filled sky, far away from city lights. Your guide will point out the Inca constellations, just as Andean farmers have done for centuries.

Included: Picnic lunch, afternoon tea, dinner
Accommodation: Local family homestay (with proper toilet)
Distance: Approx. 13 km / 8 miles
Difficulty: Moderate

DAY 2: HUCHUY Q’OSCO – OLLANTAYTAMBO – AGUAS CALIENTES

After a delicious breakfast with breathtaking views, your guide will take you on an exclusive tour of the ancient Inca city of Huchuy Qosqo. Wander through its sacred temples, farming terraces, ceremonial plazas, and advanced water channels, while uncovering the stories of how this hidden citadel shaped the course of Inca history. With time to explore and take in the magic of the site, we then begin a 2-hour descent to Lamay, where our private transport will be waiting.

We continue to Urubamba, the heart of the Sacred Valley, to enjoy a traditional Andean lunch before heading to some of the region’s most iconic treasures. At Moray, also known as the “Greenhouses of the Incas,” marvel at a series of vast circular terraces carved into the earth—ingenious agricultural laboratories that created unique microclimates and allowed the Incas to cultivate a variety of crops.

Next, we visit the picturesque colonial town of Maras and the breathtaking Pre-Inca Salt Mines (Salineras). Here, thousands of saltpans sparkle under the sun, fed by a natural spring rich in minerals. This is one of the few places in the world where you can find naturally pink salt, harvested by local families for generations.

As the afternoon unfolds, we journey to Ollantaytambo, a living Inca town and one of the most stunning archaeological complexes of the Sacred Valley. After exploring its impressive terraces and temples, we gather for dinner at a local restaurant. Finally, we board the 7:04 pm train to Aguas Calientes, where your 3★ Hotel (Hotel Ferré Machu Picchu or similar) awaits, preparing you for the grand finale of your adventure.

This day blends history, culture, and breathtaking landscapes, leading you closer to the wonder of Machu Picchu.

Included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: 3★ Hotel in Aguas Calientes
Distance: Approx. 7 km / 4.3 miles
Difficulty: Easy

DAY 3: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHUPICCHU – AGUAS CALIENTES – CUSCO

Your adventure begins early with breakfast at your hotel before boarding one of the first buses up to Machu Picchu just in time to witness the magical sunrise over the ancient citadel. Few experiences in the world compare to this moment!

Enjoy a guided two-hour tour through the most fascinating sectors of Machu Picchu agricultural, residential, and religious while taking in breathtaking views and learning about the history of this incredible Wonder of the World.

After exploring, head back down to Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included). Depending on your train schedule, you’ll also have time to shop for souvenirs, stroll around town, or visit the museum or the relaxing hot springs.

In the afternoon, board the Expedition Train at 2:55 pm or 3:20 pm, traveling alongside the spectacular Urubamba River. As the train winds through narrow canyons, keep an eye out for sections of rushing whitewater and even the Inca site of Wiñay Wayna perched high on the cliffs! Once you arrive in Ollantaytambo, your private driver will be waiting to transfer you back to your Cusco hotel—arriving around 7:00 pm.

Included Meal: Breakfast
Difficulty Level: Easy

Optional Upgrade: For an even more comfortable experience, upgrade to the Vistadome Train (available at 2:55 pm, 3:20 pm, 4:22 pm, or 4:43 pm) for just $67 USD. Early train departures are also available upon request at the time of booking.
